Intro The intro is the same chord sequence as the chorus. I like to accent my strumming in a way that mimics the high notes of the piano part. On the second F in the sequence, try moving your pinky up to the fifth fret of the high D string (3x0005) and back down to the third fret (3x0003) in order to follow the piano. Throughout the song, I also alternate between Gm and Gm7 (which I've marked in parentheses) toward the end of phrases in order to get the higher F-note of the keys, even though it sounds like Josh plays it as a straight Gm E Emaj7 E7 E A E/G# F#m Gdim7 F#m (Gm7) Verse 1 E C#m D F#m (Gm7) Naturally the dying man wonders to himself: E C#m D F#m (Gm7) Has commentary been more lucid than anybody else? G#m E7 And had he successively beaten back the rising tide C#m Caug Of idiots, dilettantes, and fools Gdim7 F#m On his watch while he was alive E Gdim7 C C#m Lord, just a little more time Chorus 1 E Emaj7 E7 E Oh, in no time at all A E/G# F#m This'll be the distant past F#7 F#m (Gm7) Ooh Verse 2 E C#m D F#m (Gm7) So says the dying man once I'm in the box E C#m D F#m (Gm7) Just think of all the overrated hacks running amok G#m E7 And all of the pretentious, ignorant voices that will go unchecked C#m Caug The homophobes, hipsters, and 1% Gdim7 F#m The false feminists he'd managed to detect E Gdim7 C C#m Oh, who will critique them once he's left? Chorus 2 E Emaj7 E7 E Oh, in no time at all A E/G# B This'll be the distant past Bridge G B E A What he'd give for one more day to rate and analyze F#m B E A The world made in his image as of yet to realize C#m F#m B What a mess to leave behind Verse 3 E C#m D F#m (Gm7) Eventually the dying man takes his final breath E C#m D F#m (Gm7) But first checks his news feed to see what he's 'bout to miss G#m E7 And it occurs to him a little late in the game C#m Caug We leave as clueless as we came Gdim7 F#m From rented heavens to the shadows in the cave E Gdim7 C C#m We'll all be wrong someday Outro While Josh sings the "Oh oh oh" bit and the choir comes in, just repeat this sequence until the end of the song: A E/G# F#m (Gm7)
